In this multi-purpose section, you can write for example your questions, suggestions and requests. Or just say hello.

I also use this section to post some smaller news for which I don’t want to write a whole article

The third purpose is writing short notes with things that are on my mind.

  1. Regarding the image sliders I switched back to Shortcodes Ultimate because I want to reduce the number of plugins I use. Furthermore, the slider shortcodes of Shortcodes Ultimate haven been changed which means I need to fix every post on this side that contains the now defunct image sliders.

Edit: It turns out that I just need to disable the “Hide deprecated shortcodes” setting in the “Advanced settings” of the plugin to repair the image sliders.

  2. I spent the last couple of days to try out different image slider and lightbox plugins because I was not content with the old ones anymore. After a lot of testing, I finally found this combination of plugins:

Slider, Gallery, and Carousel by MetaSlider:
    https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/ml-slider/

    MetaSlider Lightbox:
    https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/ml-slider-lightbox/

    ARI Fancy Lightbox:
    https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/ari-fancy-lightbox/

I wanted that single images and gallery images open in the same lightbox and not in different ones. In the next days, I update the remaiming posts accordingly to give the site a more uniform look.

Furthermore, I centered the featured images and the post info (author, tag list, etc.).

  3. Note #1

Ideas for upcoming articles (in no particular order):
    – Living with noise sensitivity
    – Social Anxiety and Social Media
    – AI chatbots

  4. I renamed “Guestbook” “Bulletin Board” to emphasize its multifunctionality that it acquired in the course of time (i.e. smaller news – see second paragraph of the description of this section).

I plan to post short notes about things that are on my mind here, too (hence the new name “Bulletin Board”).

  5. The Forum link in the navigation menu is new. It leads to Modding on the Spectrum, a forum that I started in November, 2022. I have asked myself if I should link it there in the first place since its existence. Initially, the two sites had a completely different focus regarding their subjects. I used Selene’s Shadow Realm to present my mods and projects and the main purpose of Modding on the Spectrum was to unite gamers with neurodivergent conditions. But the focus changed on both sites, better, I have changed (my mind) and it will probably not the last time that it changes (I know me too well 😀 ). Both sites have in common that they are about mods and gaming. Mental health is my main topic currently and I want to talk about it on Selene’s Shadow Realm, too, just for the sake of talking, describing my very own experiences only. So I don’t give any direct advice here (I’m already doing this on Modding on the Spectrum 😉 ).

And I removed the link to my Blender stuff from the navigation menu. Every time I saw it I was reminded of the experiences in one of my internships (no, I don’t want to go into more detail this time 😛 ).

  6. Like the site. Schtearn commented about Blender tips? I’d love a info regarding Blender, especially 2.49b as it’s UI is confusing as heck.

    1. For many years I only used version 2.49b to create models. Then some years ago, I switched to the newer versions and use the old version for exporting the models to Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas. All my modeling stuff happens now in Blender version 2.78 (or higher). It took me some time to get used to the new UI but the possibilities of the new versions excel the ones of the old version. “Blender 3D: Noob to pro” is a good place to start:

  7. Great site.
Look forward to seeing more of the modelling, and, back at the Assimilation Lab, a healthy dose of Blender Tips & Tricks. 🙂
P.S. Love this font as well!
