A place to chill and relax while talking about mods and gaming. It offers discussion hubs for a wide variety of moddable games like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout or The Witcher series and many more.

The cherry on top is the Neurodiversity hub where members can ask for advice regarding their personal problems or problems of closed ones.

The platform Modding on the Spectrum welcomes everyone – regardless if you identify as neurodivergent or not.

The Neurodiversity hub:

Did someone tell you that you play too much or waste your time modding your precious game to the fullest? That you should go outside or meet your friends more often? Your worries are heard in the Neurodiversity hub.

Why I (Selene310187) created “Modding on the Spectrum” in the first place?

It has something to do with the disclosure of my autism diagnosis on AFK Mods at the beginning of October 2022. One of the members believed that there are indeed a lot mod authors on the autism spectrum who obsessively dedicate their time to a project pondering over subtle details.

I wanted to gather these mod authors, to offer them a place where they can share their knowledge, ideas and problems without feeling judged for their individual conditions. I expanded this initial idea to include mod users and people with similar conditions like ADHD/ADD or Social Anxiety as well.

Not too long ago, I decided to expand the target group even further. Because I believe neurodiversity is a spectrum itself. There are no clear-cut borders to define what is “normal” (or “neurotypical”) and what is considered as neurodivergent/neurodiversive. You can’t always say what belongs to a character or if it’s a neurological difference for example. I also believe that most people have some kind of degree of neurodivergence and/or psychological (or mental) particularities. If you want to dive deeper into the subject, I recommend the BBC article “Why there is no such thing as a ‘normal’ brain“.

One of my biggest dreams is that people talk about neorodiversity like they are talking about the weather (or mods and games :D) someday. It’s probably an utopia. A gal can dream, can’t she?
